Description

The Oxford Town Hall was built in 1931 and is a significant presence in the centre of Oxford. Closed during 2014 for earthquake strengthening and a complete rebuild of the A&P Room, kitchen and storeroom area. The upgraded facility was re-opened on Thursday 19 February 2015.

The main hall features a stage and a large open polished wooden floor area, including a sizeable mezzanine floor with tiered seating. The main hall has a full digital cinema system and can accommodate up to 230 theatre style, with a further 70 seats in the mezzanine floor. The newly built link space connects a separate meeting room (the A&P Room) and a spacious kitchen. The A&P Room can be booked separately for smaller functions or events providing space for up to 100 people.

In addition to regular movie showings and a craft market, the hall regularly plays host to local community groups, service organisations, schools and is also a popular destination for Weddings. The buildings well featured facilities and grounds make it a inviting venue for a wide range of events, shows and functions.

Keys can be collected from the Oxford Service Centre 34 Main Street, Oxford Opening hours: Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm aside from public holidays.

    The varnished floors and stage give the main hall a wonderful classic warmth. Hiding beneath these classic features is a state of the art digital cinema system for movie screening or presentations. Please note: a technician is required to be booked to utilise the digital equipment. Facilities also include a sound system & wireless mic.

    The stage includes a theatre flying systems and basic stage lighting. Stage access is from the adjoining link space or a door that leads into the A&P Room off the back of the stage. Stage steps are available to provide direct access to the stage from the hall floor. Chairs are provided on easy to move stacking trolleys.

    The A&P room is a versatile space for workshops, events, meetings or functions. The room includes a projector, screen and small sound system with a wireless mic. Large sliding doors open on to the outdoor deck & back lawn. Or if needed sliding louvered blinds create shade and privacy for the room. An internal door provides access onto the main hall stage allowing the room to be used as a dressing room for stage shows.
